History that began outside of London
The history of the university is quite interesting and eventful, but before becoming Middlesex University, it overcame difficulties and joyful moments. This educational institution was founded in 1878 in another city in Great Britain. It was originally called St Katharine’s College and became a place where women were taught pedagogical sciences. The opening of such colleges took place in different parts of London and throughout Great Britain. All those events led to the unification of some educational institutions, forming Middlesex Polytechnic in London in 1973. In 1992, Middlesex University was founded on its basis.
Further development
The further history was characterised by international cooperation and increasing popularity. In 1995, a network of regional offices was opened throughout Europe. A significant event was the opening of the first foreign office in Kuala Lumpur. In 2005, the university created its first overseas campus in Dubai. The next stage of its development was the establishment of similar campuses in Mauritius and Malta. Despite this, the university repeatedly faced financial difficulties. As a result, some departments and even entire campuses began to be closed. The closure of the corporate services building in North London Business Park can serve as such an example. In 2010, such a decision was made regarding the Philosophy department, as it was recognised as financially insolvent.
