History of creation and further development
Fires have always shocked Londoners with their terribleness and scale. They broke out very often throughout history due to the use of wood for housing construction. Even though the government tried to ban this material, it remained in demand. After all, it was the cheapest one. In addition, starting from the 16th century, London was considered one of the most developed cities in the world. Therefore, more and more people came here. Over time, their houses formed a whole system of labyrinths in the city. As a result, the fire spread as a chain reaction and quickly engulfed the streets. That happened in 1666 when the city suffered from the Great Fire of London. Thus, the idea of creating fire services arose. After all, ordinary residents couldn’t cope with hundreds of burning houses using just buckets of water. However, that idea was implemented much later. Initially, the creation of small units fighting fires took place thanks to the assistance of insurance companies. The London Fire Engine Establishment was formed in 1833. It made it possible to ensure clear coordination of the work between units and create a more integrated system in general. Later, insurance companies pushed the government to provide funding for such services. Thus, the Fire Brigade Act was passed in 1865 and that is how the modern London Fire Brigade was born. During the Second World War, it joined other brigades from different parts of the country and they formed the National Fire Service. After the end of the war, the service became a separate unit again. Subsequently, there were some changes related to the subordination and functioning of the service.
The main principles of the work of the London Fire Brigade
The London Fire Brigade is one of the largest fire and rescue services in the world. Of course, its main goal is to ensure security in London. The units of the brigade are equipped with modern equipment, which significantly expands their capabilities. Thus, they have computers and other devices to ensure constant communication. Such a system was designed specifically to make communication between workers as quick as possible. One of the important items for helping victims is a fire hood, which is very similar to a gas mask. This item is put on a person who needs to be removed from a smoky room. It looks like a mask with a filter that enables breathing for 15 minutes. It’s also important to ensure the normal breathing of the firefighters. That’s why there are breathing apparatuses. The London Fire Brigade has two different types of them. Each one allows firefighters to breathe oxygen for a different amount of time.

The fleet of this fire and rescue service is not limited to only fire engines. To ensure safety and eliminate the consequences of accidents, special types of transport that can move in air and water are used as well. Fireboats are very effective. They can be used to rescue and tow ships, as well as to help people and animals from the water and the river bank. The brigade can also monitor the situation from above using two types of drones (DJI Matrice 210 and DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual).
