By the 1780s, Whitbread had become the largest brewery in the world. The scale of production was so great that the once-abandoned brewery on Chiswell Street turned into an entire factory. Elizabeth II was also interested in the activity of the brewery. Therefore, the place remained popular not only in London but also throughout the country for a long time. The development of the brewery slowed down somewhat during the First World War. In 1940, Whitbread stopped regular production of porter. Later, several of the company’s pubs were damaged during the Second World War. Although with the onset of peaceful life, Whitbread flourished, in 1976, the workers produced the last batch of beer.
